Beginning September 2008 Disability Network Oakland & Macomb presents ‘Common Thread’ A support group for all people with disabilities meeting the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Plus a separate support group for caregivers meeting the fourth Wednesday of each month from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Want to learn more about improving communication using assistive technology? MDRC will be hosting a workshop here at DNOM on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. and on Tuesday October 21, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. The training is free and includes lunch but you must register in advance. In this workshop you will learn about assistive technology for communicating, in order to appreciate the possibilities for independence, increase awareness of community connections, and learn strategies for emergency situations. Sandy is the Chairperson for the Elder Law & Disability Rights Section of the State Bar of Michigan and he is nationally Board Certified as an Elder Law Attorney (CELA). The CELA designation distinguishes him in the practice of law as a nationally recognized expert in his practice areas of estate planning, elder law, special needs disability planning and advocacy and estate administration.

Larry Slabosz, Financial Planner and MetDESK (MetLife's Division of Estate Planning for Special Kids/Adults) Specialist with 20 years in the profession, will be discussing planning for the future, planning for financial needs, planning for medicaid needs and planning for educational needs.

Sharon is a Disability and Social Services Advocate, Care Advocate and Benefits Specialist. She worked 25 years with the State (Family Independent Agency/State's Medicaid Agency) and has been working in The Elder Law Firm for five years. Some areas of expertise for her include Home & Community Based Waivers, Home Help, Adult Protection Services and she is a Medicaid Specialist.
