Housing: Disabled and elderly persons are assisted in locating and
securing accessible and affordable housing in Oakland and Macomb counties.
Independent Living Skills Training (I.L.S.T.): Independent Living Skills
Training (ILST) is a series of classes designed to empower people with disabilities to
make choices about living independently, to control and direct their own lives, to assert
their rights and responsibilities, and to participate in all aspects of community living.
Independent living skills courses include training in: Transportation;
Housing; Community Resources; Consumer Affairs; Self-Advocacy; The Americans with
Disabilities Act; Community Accessibility; Sports and Recreation; Financial Resources;
Health and Medicine; Self-awareness; Assistive Technology and Adaptive Equipment; Personal
Protection and Safety; Career Planning; Assertiveness; Empowerment; Communication; Time
and Money Management.
Peer Support: Peer Support is a service providing mentoring, role models
and support by people with disabilities to people with disabilities. These relationships
provide an opportunity to explore concerns about independent living within a supportive
individual or group environment.
Information & Referral: We use the latest Internet technology to
research the most current and accurate information about issues such as housing, assistive
technology and transportation.
Student Centered Transition: A young adult with a disability facilitates
peer support groups within area high schools for students with disabilities preparing to
make the transition from school to adult living. The program is a cooperative effort
between schools, parents, students and community agencies.
