Advocacy: We empower people with disabilities to become self advocates, and speak up for themselves and their rights. Working with other advocacy and community organizations, we educate business, the public and the legislature about issues important to people with disabilities.

ADA Consultation: The Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) is a federal law that gives persons with disabilities basic rights in the areas of transportation, communication, employment and equal access to goods and services. We provide training, technical assistance and information to assure that the spirit of the law is implemented throughout the community. We assist business, employers and agencies to meet their compliance responsibilities.

We provide training, technical assistance and information to help businesses, employers, government and private agencies comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Michigan Handicappers Civil Rights Act and other disability related legislation.

Assessment:

IN THE WORKPLACE...we assist employers in making cost-effected, budget conscious accommodations that create a more productive workplace. We individually assess and recommend adaptations to work sites to meet the needs of employees with disabilities.

IN THE HOME...we evaluate the homes of persons with disabilities to determine kitchen, bath, and other adaptive needs, which may include ramps and other structural modifications. We also help in locating funding options to assist in lowering individuals costs.

IN THE COMMUNITY...we assess the ability of individuals with significant physical or mental disabilities, to live, work and play in the community they choose. We also assess the ability of the community to meet the needs of people with abilities of they choose. We also assess the ability to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
